For the many diseases, a common disease for settlers was scurvy. Scurvy is a condition that is caused by vitamin C deficiency and is not contagious. Scurvy mainly occurs on ships because that is where fruit would rot and could not be eaten any more. It usually takes a long period of time to get scurvy because...Scurvy is an extremely deadly disease that many settlers on the ship got. This was a bad disease because many settlers, that were supposed to make the settlement more permanent, died.
Another sickness, that is highly contagious, is Typhoid fever. How the settlers caught typhoid fever was that the fever was brought from England and spread. This was a problem for all the settlers who got typhoid fever because if they spread the sickness and his or her germs, the settlers could die and the settlement would not really feel permanent.
One of the most common illnesses in the region that the Jamestown settlers experienced was Malaria. Malaria is not contagious - from person to person. To get Malaria you have to get bitten by many mosquitos. Additionally, yellow fever is an illness that is very similar to Malaria. Yellow fever is also not contagious and is obtained by getting bitten by mosquitoes.
Another non - contagious illness are Dysentery Germs. Dysentery Germs is caused by drinking too much tide water. This illness is not severe so that means Dysentery Germs are nothing really to worry about. So if you get dysentery germs, just drink a numerous amount of water to wash out all of the tide water.

For example, if one person in your family has small pox, they can sneeze and you can get that illness by breathing in the germs they just released. All of these illnesses caused at least 1 settler to die. This was hard back then because they wanted their settlement to be successful. To have a successful settlement you need settlers to stay in your settlement and clarify that the land has been claimed or owned.
