The leader of the Puritans, John Winthrop, was a lawyer who lost his job because of his religion. Then he came to the Americas. These are the events that happened during 1630: John Winthrop and his followers arrived in the Americas, north of Plymouth, in June 1630. He also served as governor for 20 years of his existence. He said "We shall be as a city upon a hill". John Winthrop was born into a wealthy landowning and merchant family. John Winthrop was trained to become a lawyer , and became Lord of the Manor at Groton in Suffolk. Which he was not involved in the founding of the Massachusetts Bay Company in 1628.
